Ron gets his surf on...well sort of...

Ron has been waiting for this for weeks!  Finally, getting into the water here at Dockweiller State Beach.  The weather has been perfect despite the winds that pick up in the afternoon.  We used to come to this beach when the kids were little to have a late afternoon dip and hot dogs.  Lots of fun times...

Here he goes...

Surf is still pretty rough from the hurricane

Almost lost his shorts...

So clear you can see Palos Verdes point and Catalina Island

Road to Los Angeles

We decided to take the coast all the way in to LA.  The surf has been huge due to hurricane Marie in the Pacific.  Even though we were in quite a bit of traffic, the views were worth the aggravation.  We will be here for the next week and a half, catching up with family and friends.

North of Ventura, the swells were huge

Pismo Beach

Pismo was perfect weather, nice quiet campground, and fun to drive on the sand.  We spent a few days visiting with my sisters, Monica & Laura, and their husbands, David and Marty.  We went to the Stone Soup Music Festival with them.  Diana and Russell drove over for the night, (she missed her mommy).  All in all, a very relaxing stay.

Beautiful beaches, not too many people.

Our set up

Bobos chillin in the sun

Redwood Forest

We took a ride north of Westport and came across this cool picnic area with a lush redwood forest and trail, and nobody there!  It is maintained by Mendocino Lumber Co, and was just a great place to explore.  We made a few stops along the way, it was foggy day so the coast gets a little spooky.

Clovers were abundant

Nice trail and benches to sit and ponder life...

Perspective of just how big these trees are.

One advantage to this beach is the sunsets, when it wasn't fogged in that is.  We did catch one night of beautiful skies that we'd like to share.

Here are some picture that I wanted to include in the last post from Westport.

The road to Westport was through beautiful wine country.

That fog bank out there is where we want to be...more ranches and farmland.

California happy cows.

Our near private beach in Westport looking south.

Morning walks with the dogs everyday.

Yea, No leashes ma!

Shot of windy highway one along the rugged coast.

Ron is a happy camper exploring the coast.

Pristine beaches and rocky shore...gorgeous.

Tree tunnel along the way to Fort Bragg.

Hey, sometimes you gotta go!

This fishing charter boat was the Dolce Vita, Sweet Life...it is.

(Sorry, Internet not so great, couldn't get picture to upload, I will try again when we go to town)

Well, the move to the beach of Westport has been nothing but great. Except for no phone service and limited internet!  So that explains no updates!  Finally someone told us there is a hotspot at the office! Duh, thanks for the info.  The campground boast being one of their two that are both the only privately owned camps on the coast.  All others are either state or county beaches.

Anyway, Westport is a town of 299 people, with not much more to offer than a small grocery/liquor store and beautiful beaches.  We'll take those beaches and 70 degree weather for sure.  Just 15 miles south down a very windy Highway 1, is Fort Bragg.  We did a morning run there yesterday for a few groceries and lunch at Jenny's Giant Burger.  No need to elaborate there.

Anyway, our mornings have been great fun walking the dogs on this private beach with no leashes.  Tito is in heaven running after birds and dodging waves.  Peanut and Buster dutifully follow, but Tito is definitely the king of the runners.

We are scouting out north of here tomorrow, so we hope to have more pics to share.

First stop is the Sacramento Delta KOA.  It's a beautiful, old style campground with large trees and lots of shade.  We need it, still in the 90 degree range here, but with clean air and breezes.  Our new kennel set up for the dogs is working well.  We purchased several kennels to make one large enclosure for the dogs to roam.  Even includes the big tree for..., well you know!  We hope to go exploring today around the waterways of the Delta.
